Growing up in a small country town, Yolan could be found sitting in front of her mother’s record player singing along to Neil Diamond, Charlie Pride, The Bee Gees and Dolly Parton, mostly because that is all they had at the time. Throughout Primary school she was involved in the choir, learnt to play the violin and took part in the Chorales’ Society performance at Expo 88. At the age of 15, she discovered the guitar and this became an outlet during her high school years. Bands like The Waifs, John Butler Trio and Counting Crows have been a huge influence and inspiration, but mostly her brothers and sister who have always been her biggest fans, encouraging her to reach for the stars and live her dream to the fullest.
