Dan Hannaford Band is a gang of working musicians hailing from coastal towns around the northern rivers who like to play a rocking juke-joint style of unruly country blues. When this eclectic 5 piece get together it’s a train ride that’s impossible to forget. Fronted by award-winning, singer songwriter Dan Hannaford who leads the jaunt down roads less travelled on songs that include Leadbelly, Johnny Cash, Bo Diddley, Bob Dylan, Creedence, Pink Floyd and many more.
Hannaford has been busy gracing hundreds of stages around Australia including opening tour shows for the likes of Charlie Musslewhite (USA), Donavon Frankenreiter (USA), Tex Perkins and The Black Sorrows. Dan was recently invited to tour overseas to perform in Europe whilst also developing his recorded works in America. Dan has showcased his talent at some of Australia’s top music festivals including National Folk Festival, Gympie Music Muster and the iconic Byron Bay Blues Festival, being named on the bill alongside John Fogerty, Cold Chisel and Crosby Stills & Nash. His latest full-length album release ‘I cried bullets’ was recorded in Los Angeles and has received glowing reviews from critics and punters alike with his songs being played on radio, film and television in Australia. Dan’s songs have been compared to Hank Williams and Bob Dylan (with the soul of James Brown). For those who have seen Hannaford performing as a solo act, they will testify he is a master of his craft, but when given a little help from his friends, Hannaford takes no prisoners as his audiences continue to be swept off their feet song after song.
The Dan Hannaford Band features the twin peaks of Jamie Symonds (Harmonica) and ‘Big’ Dave Murray (Lead Guitar). Symonds is a veteran of the Australian blues scene and also is three times Australian Golden Harmonica winner. Murray is a successful songwriter in his own right (including a recent co-write for hit British rock duo Royal Blood). Murray has over 20 years experience in various blues, jazz, folk and rock genres. This comes as no surprise as ‘Big’ Dave was schooled by Australian guitar legend Ray Young (Bullamakanka) and has also won a gold medal for his blues guitar playing at the Los Angeles Performance Olympics. Partner them with one of the tightest, funkiest rhythm sections on the North Coast (Isaac Frankham on bass and Ben Cox on drums) and you can guarantee the good times are going to roll.
“Rarely do you find anyone who builds from the dust and grit of real life, songs of such power and poignancy – Dan Hannaford is one who does, a true talent, make no mistake” Samuel J. Fell – Rhythms Magazine.
